The Benefits of Getting Script Coverage from Screenplay Readers:
✅ Lets you see how a “gatekeeper” would react to your script
You get one chance with agents and producers. Script coverage from Screenplay Readers acts as a valuable “dry run” to gauge how film industry professionals may react to your screenplay.
✅ Lets you catch any problems
Our readers will spot story holes, character inconsistencies, presentation problems, and much, much more, so you can fix things up before you send the script to agents and producers.
✅ Gives you fresh ideas and suggestions
Our readers don’t just point out flaws, they offer creative and constructive suggestions on how to repair those flaws.
✅ Gets you out of your own head
Being too close to your own script often prevents prevents creative screenwriters from being objective and critical of their own work. See your story through the fresh eyes of someone who has read thousands of screenplays and can help make it stronger and more sellable (and you more likely to land representation).
✅ Makes you a better screenwriter
Feedback on your work can often be hard for a writer to hear, but it’s by far the fastest and most powerful tool you can use to increase your screenwriting skills.
Script Coverage FAQ
How long does it take?
Our typical turnaround time for script coverage is 72 business hours. If you need your coverage back to you within 24 business hours, guaranteed, include the Rush add-on.
Can I pick a specific reader to read my script?
Yes. Be sure to include the Reader Request add-on and you’ll specify your requested reader when you upload your script.
How qualified are the script readers reading my screenplay?
Every script reader on the Screenplay Readers roster has at least 10 years of comprehensive script development experience, a strong critical voice, and the ability to come up with creative solutions to story problems. Check out our reader roster for photos and bios.
Why do you charge more for scripts over 120 pages?
To respect our readers’ time and effort. By doing so, we keep a happy workplace and keep the world’s best script readers at Screenplay Readers.
If my script receives a “RECOMMEND” will you pass it on to your “film industry contacts?”
No. And be wary of any service that promises this.
Do you have different rates for reading tv scripts, streaming scripts, etc?
No. Our rates only vary based on page count, number of readers, requests, and turnaround time.
What if I disagree with the feedback?
If you’re not willing to receive feedback you may disagree with, and/or you tend to get in arguments with people who give you critical notes, probably don’t use our service but we love you anyway.
Will you tell me my screenplay is amazing just to keep me coming back as a customer?
No. We pull no punches. Honest critique is our business model because we know that most writers, new and established, prefer honesty to false praise.
When I send in my screenplay for coverage, will my material and ideas be safe?
Yes. Your script will be read by your script reader(s) only.
Is script coverage even necessary?
Not at all. But as you probably already know, the playing field is extremely tilted in favor of established screenwriters with agents and managers. Even if your screenplay is perfect, a spec script from an unknown screenwriter is an almost impossible sell, because you’re up against pro screenwriters who are already entrenched, many of whom have long track records and close relationships with studios and producers.
Every single line on every single page of your script needs to not only entertain an agency, studio, or producer, but also convince them (a) that you know your craft, (b) you have great ideas that are artistic and/or marketable, and (c) you’re a talent worth taking a chance on. Short of that critical trifecta, your script has little chance.
Getting paid script coverage from Screenplay Readers allows you to test your script, by giving it a “dry run” to get an idea how a real agency/producer reader might react to your screenplay, giving you an opportunity to make fixes to your screenplay before pitching it or producing it.
But know that paid feedback on your screenwriting is not your only option. Free feedback from writers or writers groups or online communities may be all you need, so be sure to check out those options.
Do you use A.I.?
No. And be careful out there. Lots of other script reading services are using A.I. tools to analyze screenplays and auto-generate slop they try to pass off as script feedback.
